Note
  • Fourth ed. of the Bible in Italian, but the first ed. of the version by the learned Dominican, Saint Marmochino of San Marco, Florence, who closely followed Brucioli's text. The New Testament is apparently a mere reprint of a 1536 ed. bearing the name of Fra Zaccheria. (All three--the present Bible of 1538, the New Testament of 1536, and Brucioli's Bible of 1532--use the same, or very similar type; cf. Darlow & Moule no. 5578). Marmochino's Bible also includes the first translation into Italian of the third book of the Maccabees
  • Printer identified in colophon: "In Vinegia appresso gli heredi di Luc̀antonio Giunti nell'anno MDXXXVIII nel mese di Aprile."
  • Marmochino's dedicatory epistle addressed to George d'Armaignac, bishop of Roudes and Vabres, on verso of leaf [14]
  • Woodcuts: title border, composed of nine panels containing scenes from the Bible, such as Moses receiving the Ten Commandments, the Nativity, and the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden; portrait of King David with his viol (81 x 47 mm.) at beginning of Book of Psalms; large and small white floriated or historiated initials; large printer's device on verso of leaf 85 (the Giunta fleur-de-lis, with printer's initials "L.A.", flanked by two putti holding a wreath of fruit and leaves)
  • Title-page in red and black; text printed in roman type, in long lines, with indexes printed in two columns; dedicatory epistle and text captions in italic type; printed marginal notes and index letters
  • Signatures: [maltese cross]8 2[maltese cross]6 a-z8 A-X8 2A-2K8 2L6
  • Errata on recto of leaf [14]
