- Summary expansion
- The dictionary, principally of synonyms and phrases, is arranged in ten books, with each book organized not alphabetically, but according to the subject matter. Pollux based his dictionary on the lexicographical works of Didymus, Tryphon, and Pamphilus. For the Second Book, he leaned heavily on the treatise by Rufus of Ephesus, De appellationibus partium corporis humani. The Onomastikon remains an important source of ancient theatrical and musical history
