Summary expansion
The Tesoro was the first book to diffuse the cultural and scientific knowledge of its day in a vernacular language, and became one of the most influential encyclopedic works of the 14th century. It is arranged in three books and 413 chapters, and covers subjects such as the creation, history of the Bible, and astronomy, geography and natural history taken from Aristotle, Pliny, and old French bestiaries. Book II is based on the Ethics of Aristotle, while Book III, on politics, opens with a treatise on rhetoric, principally taken from Cicero's De inventione, with many excerpts from other writers. The last part concerns the government of the Italian republics of the time
