  • Tasso's treatise on the value and importance of the secretary, whose role he compares to that of the orator, followed by a compilation of 145 of Tasso's letters to various contemporaries, such as Alessandro Spinola, Alfonso Becaria, Cardinal Farnese, Cornelio Bentivoglio, duke of Parma, Odoardo Farnese and others
  • Signatures: [superscript pi]A8 A-P8 Q4; [superscript pi]A4 A-L8
  • Woodcuts: Salicato's device, featuring female figure of Fortezza, holding the top portion of a broken column, within ornamental cartouche bearing motto "Materiam superat opus"; ornamental initials; head-pieces
  • Second part has special title page, and separate pagination and signature sequences: "Il secondo volume delle lettere familiari del signor Torquato Tasso."
  • Prefatory matter signed by Giacomo Vincenti, and dated Sept. 15 in Venice. Vincenti had printed two earlier editions (1588, 1590) of these two Tasso works
  • This edition not in BM STC Italian, 1465-1600 or Adams
