  • Second ed., second [?] issue, of this Italian translation of Caesar's Commentaries on the Gallic Wars by Francesco Baldelli. Most copies of this ed. are dated 1557 on both t.p. and colophon; the present volume is dated 1558 on t.p., 1557 in colophon. Cf. Bongi
  • Although the commentaries on the wars in Alexandria, Africa, and Spain are ascribed to Aulus Hirtius, he most likely authored only the first, and probably served only as an editor of the other two works
  • Includes Baldelli's 1554 dedication to the cardinal of Ferrara, dated Sept. 13, 1553 in Cortona
  • Printed in italic type; shoulder notes in roman
  • Woodcuts: title within ornamental cartouche; printer's device on t.p. (Giolito's phoenix atop a flaming anphora bearing his initials "G.G.F.", supported by two winged satyrs); a variation of his device appears on last p.
