- Summary expansion
- These states present to the husbandman or farmer numerous opportunities for the man of moderate means to establish farms and ranches. Black and white photographs depict fruit orchards, irrigation canals, threshing alfalfa, and raising cattle, hogs, and sheep in Utah, highlighting resources of the state's fertile valleys: the Great Central Valley, the Escalante Valley, and the San Pete Valley. The brochure points out the attractions for the small farmer in the Moapa and Virgin Valleys amidst the desert landscape of Nevada, as well as "The Meadows" of Las Vegas where desert land can be had for a low price under the Desert Act. In California, the brochure praises the fertile soil and climate of the San Bernardino Mountains for growing apples, the citrus industry of Redlands and Riverside, and possibilites for poultry farming and cattle raising. The San Pedro Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad was the first direct route from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles. It was the single most significant factor in the creation of what would become the city of Las Vegas and later, Clark County (Nev.)
