Spec. Coll. copy: dark brown straight-grain morocco boards, with gilt filet; gilt-ruled spine compartments, spine title "Hori apollinis Hieroglyphica. Romae 1597."; all edges gilt; brown endpapers. Binders' ticket on verso of front free endpaper: "Bound by Fargher & Lindner, Exeter Court, Strand". According to dealers' notes on front endpapers, this copy once belonged to the 5th Duke of Marlborough, and was sold at the auction of the Duke's White Knights Library in 1819. Other former owners include George John, 2nd Earl Spencer, whose bookplate of the Spencer family library at Althorp, with heraldic crest and shelf-mark, is affixed to front pastedown; and John Broadley, whose library was sold at auction in 1832.
