  • "There are 89 copies of this book. All but ten are bound in quarter leather with cloth sides in a cloth-covered box. Fifty of these have been printed for sale and are numbered 1-50. The remainder are proof copies: nine author's proofs, numbered PP1-PP9, ten artist's proofs, numbered AP1-AP10, nine proofs for the printers and publisher, numbered 2P1-2P9, and one typesetter's proof. In addition, there are ten special copies, lettered A-K and bound in full leather, in a leather- and cloth-covered box. Each special copy includes a separate folder containing a portion of the poem in manuscript, in the author's hand, as well as two unique monoprints of images from the book, printed in color by the artist. ... All copies are signed by the artist and the author."--Colophon

Townsend in Georgetown, Massachusetts, from plates created by the artist ... . The poemwas set in type by Michael Babcock in Allston, Massachusetts, on a Linotype Model 31, and the text pages were printed at Foolscap Press in Santa Cruz, California, by Lawrence G. Van Velzer. The binding was designed and executed at Foolscap Press by Peggy Gotthold. The paper is BFK Rives lightweight ... The text type is Linotype Aldus. Front and back matter are set in Aldus, Sistina, and Michelangelo. These letterforms were designed by Hermann Zapf."--Colophon
