Summary expansion
Engravings of members of the noble Nuremberg families are interleaved with leaves of manuscript text containing historical notes on each family. Included among the families represented are "Die Kressen;" an engraving and history of the Kress family appears on recto of leaf 159. Two of the 83 families represented in the first edition have been dropped in this edition. For background on the role of patrician families in the government of Nuremberg, see the essay by Alfred Wendehorst, "Nuremberg, the imperial city: from its beginnings to the end of its glory," in the Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibit catalog Gothic and Renaissance Art in Nuremberg 1300-1550 (New York and Munich, 1986), especially pages 16-18
