Valla occupied a publicly-supported lectureship in Venice, and was extremely active in editing or teaching the works of authors as diverse as Juvenal, Ptolemy, Cicero, and Aristotle. It was the circle of Valla and his associates that Aldus joined when he came to Venice in the 1490s

  • Spec. Coll. copy: bound as 2 volumes in a 20th-century binding by Los Angeles binder Max Adjarian; quarter tree-calf and tree-calf patterned paper boards; tan endpapers; spine title "Valla. Opera;" original edges stained yellow in volume 1, and red in volume 2. In addition to two unidentified ownership inscriptions, title-page also includes inscription "Jo. Bernardini Rastellij" in a 16th-century hand, possibly Giovanni Bernardini Rastelli, author of De ratione atque emendatione anni, printed in Perugia in 1579. Each volume housed in a dark brown cloth phasebox, and tree-calf and brown and orange marbled paper slipcases.
  • Spec. Coll. Belt copy: bound as 1 volume. Imperfect copy, title leaf, and final two and a half leaves wanting, supplied in a later [18th-century?] hand. Bound in 18th-century calf over wooden boards; rebacked, with original backstrip laid on; six of seven spine panels filled with elaborate gilt ornamentation; gold-stamped spine title "Georgii Vallae Opera Varia;" edges sprinkled red. Nineteenth-century [?] ownership inkstamp on supplied title-page "Ex libris S. Baglioni." Forms part of the Elmer Belt Library of Vinciana, gift of Dr. Elmer Belt, 1961.
