  • Engravings: engraved architectural title page, featuring figures of Roman soldiers, cherubs holding trumpets, and garlands of fruit and leaves; figure of an antelope or goat within a square border at top; oval medallion below title contains scene in a cemetery; text illustrated with 23 engravings by Girolamo Porro, one at the head of each chapter, depicting ancient funeral rites and ceremonies of different peoples including Romans, Egyptians, Greeks, Athenians, Indians, Scythians, Christians, and primitive men, the Troglodytes; engravings measure approximately 10 x 16 cm, at the head of each chapter
  • Woodcuts: large device on page 95 of Heredi di Simon Gaglignani de Karera, featuring his initials "H.S.G.K." and a tower encircled with motto "Turris et fortitudo mihi Deus;" head- and tail-pieces; ornamental white initials
  • Text printed in roman type, with some sections in italic type
  • Includes index
  • Originally published by Gaglignan in 1574 in 4to format, with the same engravings; Porcacchi's original dedication to Ottaviano Manini, dated 21 May 1574, is included in the second edition of 1591 as well/
