Summary expansion
In his first letter to Paolo Manuzio (leaves 169v-170r), dated Aug. 29, 1565, Zava confesses to being a bit intimidated by writing to such an erudite person, and fears that his rough speech may offend Manuzio's delicate ear. However, Zava is encouraged to continue writing by the great humanity he feels emanating from the work of Manuzio, who is universally admired by scholars for the elegance of his style, and his great philosophical knowledge. The second letter (leaves 183v-184r), although undated, was probably written shortly after the first. Zava regrets not having met Paolo's father, Aldo Manuzio, but is sure that the son is, in no way, inferior to the father. Zava recognizes that Manuzio is very busy, but still hopes to receive even a brief letter from him. The last letter, dated June 5, perhaps the following year 1566, but in any case, after 1565, expresses Zava's disappointment at not having heard from Manuzio. Zava laments the age in which they live, which values the rich and powerful over those who have chosen to live simply
