Summary
Collection of Aesop's fables in French verse by Isaac de Benserade, some of which are represented in the labyrinth at Versailles. The labyrinth was a hedge maze in the gardens of Versailles, featuring thirty-nine fountains and sculptures depicting scenes from the fables of Aesop, created between 1672 and 1677 by André Le Nôtre for the education of the dauphin Louis, son of Louis XIV. The young prince learned to read by studying Benserade's texts of the fables which were printed on plaques attached to each of the fountains
