Summary expansion
Over the course of his life, Miller collected manuscripts, illustrations, and photographs relating to the life of Charles Dickens, and interleaved them with the pages of Forster's original three-volume text, expanding the extra-illustrated or "Grangerized" version to twelve volumes. Included are some 885 portraits, 726 views, 472 autographs, 22 playbills for theater productions in which Dickens performed, 75 playbills for productions of plays written by Dickens, 166 portraits of Dickens; facsimiles; title-pages, prefaces, and illustrations from Dickens works, 18 original drawings, and letters and autographs of Dickens. There are some one thousand autograph letters from Dickens, Walter Scott, Robert and Elizabeth Browning, Robert Burns, Lord Byron, Edward Bulwer-Lytton, Thomas Carlyle, George Eliot and many others. Miller's enormous passion for collecting anything related to Dickens life and writings led to the production of this rich compendium of Victoriana
