Coll. copy of v. 1-4 : v. 1, 2, 4 comprise a made-up set bound in olive morocco over boards, by "Binder of the Blickling Lucian" in Bologna, ca. 1520-1521 (see Anthony Hobson, Humanists and bookbinders: the origins and diffusion of the humanistic bookbinding 1459-1559 (New York: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1989), page 158, no. 30, figure 125); gilt fillets, small gilt leaf corner-pieces; upper board bears gold-stamped title within double gilt circles; volume 4 has gold-stamped letters "L:F:PO" within double gilt circles, flanked on top and bottom by gold-stamped wolf's heads; traces of two pairs of leather ties along fore-edges; edges sprinkled red and dark green. Lower board has gold-stamped monogram "F.G.EQ" of former owner, probably Fredericus Gerraerdi, of Haarlem, who matriculated in Bologna in 1518; small gilt wolf's-head ornaments on upper and lower covers attest to Gerraerdi's military virtues. Vol. 3 bound in dark brown (originally "purple") morocco over paste boards, possibly by the same printer, being Bolognese and of the same date, but from a different set; blind-ruled and blind-rolled oakleaf borders enclosing two triangular blind-ruled center panels above and below a square panel; gold-stamped cover title "Tit. Liv. Dec. Quar."; small gilt figure of Fortune on lower cover; edges stained dark green. All 4 vols. contain bookplate on front pastedown of George Dunn of "Woolley Hall near Maidenhead," below small square gold-stamped black leather bookplate of E.P. Goldschmidt ("Ex libris E.Ph. G."). Bookseller's notes by Jake Zeitlin in pencil on rear pastedown in v. 1. In modern dark green cloth phase boxes; in green marbled paper slipcases, with olive green and brown leather spines, and gold-stamped box titles.
