Spec. Coll. copy: imperfect, blank leaf [4] of the preliminaries wanting. Traces of a thumb tab along margin of leaf *2 suggests that the Moriae was previously bound with at least one other work. Bound in 18th-century tan calf; blind-tooled ornamental rolled border; gilt centerpiece of the arms of Frederick II of Prussia, featuring a crowned eagle holding a scepter and orb, the initials "FR" ("Fridericus Rex") entwined on his breast; three of five spine panels have gilt ornaments; remaining two are gold-stamped black title and imprint labels: "Erasmi. Moria. Venet. Ald. 1515;" brown marbled endpapers; gilt and gauffered edges. Small blue and white paper shelf-mark label in lower left corner of upper board; large armorial bookplate on upper pastedown of Leonardo Vitetti, Italian diplomat who served as a delegate to the U.N. from 1956 to 1958 ("Biblioteca del conte Leonardo Vitetti, Ambasciatore d'Italia"), with his manuscript shelf-mark. Gold-stamped red leather bookplate on front endleaf of T. Kimball Brooker, well-known Aldine collector from the Chicago area, featuring a bisected circle containing his initials "TK" and "B", surmounted by a double cross. Bookplated "In memory of Robert H. Ahmanson 1927-2007." In dark green cloth clamshell box with gold-stamped brown leather spine label bearing title "Erasmi Moria. Aldus 1515." Purchase, E.K. Schreiber, 2007.
