  • Three Mountains Press was the small printing house started by American expatriate William Bird in Paris in 1922. At first Bird printed the books himself on a hand press, but the press soon began publishing the works of some of the most important Modernist writers of the 1920s, including Hemingway, Pound, and William Carlos Williams

Spec. Coll. copy is no. 17 of 115 copies, 100 of which were printed on Arches paper. Contemporary binding of brown leather and green marbled paper boards; gold-stamped spine title "Distinguished Air. Robert McAlmon;" mustard yellow endpapers; light blue silk ribbon marker. Art Deco-style bookplate of publisher and literary agent Donald S. Friede (1901-1965), designed by Mexican artist Miguel Covarrubias, on front pastedown. Friede, who worked at Boni & Liveright, Prentice-Hall, and Doubleday during his career, helped to publish works by writers such as James Joyce, Theodore Dreiser, and Ezra Pound. Purchase, 1984.
