Summary expansion
The first ed. of 1561 appeared some twenty years after the death of Guicciardini, published under the direction of Guicciardini's nephew, Agnolo Guicciardini, and printed in Venice by Lorenzo Torrentino. The first ed., as well as the eds. of 1562 and 1563, included only the first sixteen books of the history, since the last four--Books 17-20--remained unfinished. The 1564 ed. was the first to include all twenty books. Cf. NUC pre-1956, 222:319
