Poem by Girolamo Badesi describing the transfer in 1587 of the Holy Crib--a relic consisting of ancient pieces of wood purported to be part of the manger of the Christ Child--from the reliquaryy crypt before the main altar of the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore to the new chapel commissioned by Pope Sixtus V--the Sistine Chapel or Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament--in the right nave of the basilica.

  • Second part has special title page, with title "De eodem sacello Sixti V. Pont. Max. a Hieronymo Badesio descripto. Diversorum poetarum carmina;" and separate pagination and signature sequences
  • Signatures: A-G4 H4 (-H4); a4 b6
  • Engraving: engraved title vignette featuring the papal arms of Pope Sixtus V, flanked by the figures of Justice holding scales in one hand, a sword in the other; and Peace, holding an olive branch above her head
