Summary
Anthology of medieval and Renaissance writers on the subject of dowries, including Baldo Bartolini, Giovanni Campeggi, Jacopo Bottrigari, Odofredo Denari, Constantius Rogerius, Rolandus a Valle, Antonius Guibertus Costanus, Phanuccius de Phanucciis, François Hotman, and Pardoux Duprat. The dowries under discussion are both civil and ecclesiastical. The complexity of dowry rights was enormous, as exemplified by the fact that the subject index of this volume extends to ten pages of double-column entries set in small type. The acceptance of this work on dowries is supported by the issuance of other editions through the end of the century. A notable difference between this and later editions is the deletion of the section extracted from writings of Françius Hotman, author of Franco-Gallia which was placed on the Index librorum prohibitorum of the Catholic Church
