Coll. copy: bound in 17th-century polished tan calf; gilt centerpiece on both boards of the arms of French historian, statesman, and book collector Jacques-Auguste de Thou and his first wife Marie de Barbançon-Cany whom he married in 1587, and their joint monogram "IAM;" engraved bookplate on front pastedown of Brayton Ives, with his monogram "BI" and shelf-mark added in red ink (this copy was sold as Item 347 in the Brayton Ives sale of 1891). According to the Catalogue of the collection of books and manuscripts belonging to Mr. Brayton Ives of New York (New York: DeVinne Press, 1981), this copy also once belonged to Armand Gaston, Cardinal de Rohan, and his heirs, Cardinal de Soubise and the Prince de Soubise, and was sold in 1789 following the death of the Prince in 1787; see E. Edwards, Libraries and founders of libraries (Cambridge Univ. Press, 2010). Purchase, Gilann Books, 1997.
