Many of the poems are written by "Miss Felton," and addressed to various members of the Cornewall family, in particular three of the seven children of George Amyand Cornewall 2nd baronet (1748-1819) and his wife Catherine Cornewall (1752-1835) of Herefordshire: sisters Anna Maria (1779-1872), Harriet (1787-1838), and Caroline (1789-1875) who married Sir William Duff Gordon in 1810. An ownership inscription on verso of front endleaf indicates that the book was first owned by Catherine Cornewall, and upon her death in 1835 was passed to her daughter Anna Maria, who then gave it to her sister Caroline Duff Gordon in May 1866. Also included are poems by Sir Gilbert Elliot (first earl of Minto married to Anna Maria Cornewall Jan. 3, 1777); Rev. William Coxe, D.D., Rev. Mr. Powys (on the occasion of a lunar eclipse, July 30, 1776); and Lord Belgrave, Robert Grosvenor, marquess of Westminster (1767-1845). Titles of some poems read "Verses written to Miss Cornewall on her birthday Nover. 15th 1766 when the author Miss Felton was but 18 years of age," "To Miss Amyand on her losing her enamelled heart," "To Miss Harriet Amyand with a watch presented on her birthday May ye 2d 1775," "To Miss Amyand on her paintings by the Revd. Mr. Powys," "Charlotte an Elegy by Lord Belgrave, Hague, 1786," "A Journey from the English Border to Minto in Roxburghshire by Sr. Gilb. Elliot," and "To Miss H. Amyand on her little favorite hourse whose name was little Horace." An added footnote in pencil identifies the "Mr. Knight" mentioned in one of the poems as Richard Payne Knight (1751-1824) of Downton Castle in Herefordshire, art collector, writer, and author of the 1808 book An analytical inquiry into the principles of taste. Also included are rebuses and riddles: "Riddles by the Revd. William Coxe D.D.," and "Rebuses by A. Felton."
