- First ed. of Folengo's "Chaos", a mixture of verses, dialogues, orations and narrative, written in a mélange of prose and verse in Italian, Latin, and macaronic. The material is a hodge-podge of satire, spiritual biography, and symbolism. The work has been seen as an attempt by Folengo to justify his readmission to the Benedictine order which he had left a decade before

Coll. copy: four blank leaves bound in at front of text, three of which contain ms. notes in French, in an 18th-century hand, probably by Paul Girardot de Préfond, on Folengo's text, with selected bibliographical references included as well. Ruled in red throughout. French 18th-century red morocco, triple fillets; gilt floral ornaments in spine panels; gold-stamped tan leather spine label "Chaos del tri per uno. Vinegia 1527"; inner gilt dentelles; all edges gilt; marbled endpapers; blue silk bookmark. Gold-stamped red leather crest of J. Gomez de la Cortina, marqués de Morante, with motto "Fallitur hora legendo" on front pastedown, above which is the engraved oval paper label of the arms of Paul Girardot de Préfond (quadrants containing two lions and two chevrons); large armorial bookplate of A.L. McLaughlin on rear pastedown. Purchase, Martin Breslauer, 1986.
