Summary expansion
In addition to his talents as a printer, Alessandro was also a shrewd publisher of Italian and Latin texts, and a designer of distinctive type fonts; he began his career by designing his father's editions of Euclid and Pacioli. When his father retired in 1511, Alessandro took over as publisher and expanded the firm's output to include vernacular works by Petrarch, Bembo, and Sannazaro, as well as Dante's "Commedia." In 1515 (the year of Aldus' death), Alessandro began publishing books in 24mo format. Paganini is considered the inventor of the editorial series, defined as a cycle of publications which share the same editorial characteristics and presentation. The distinguishing characteristic of his first collection was the small format, and included Petrarch's Rime, Jacopo Sannazaro's Arcadia, and Pietro Bembo's Neopolatonic love dialogue, Gli Asolani. This editorial program can be considered an elaboration on Aldus' innovations at the beginning of the century, both for the small format and for the elegant characters that are midway between roman and italic. The choice of works also follows Aldus
