  • "Limited edition of one hundred copies"--Leaf [5]
  • Contains 52 wood engravings of scenes from California history by Cecil Goodchild, a self-taught artist--painter, engraver, wood block printer, etcher--born in San Luis Obispo in 1901, and later a resident of Glendale, Calif. in the 1930s. His prints document California history, beginning with prehistoric animals of the La Brea tar pits, Dark Age pictographs, and scenes of aboriginal life, through the arrival of the railroad and the invention of the airplane. Each scene is printed in black on a double leaf of beige tissue, and signed with the engraver's initials "C.W.G.". Goodchild also titled and signed each print in pencil along lower margin
