Eighteenth-century polished tan calf; double gilt fillet; elaborate gilt spine panels, with gold-stamped spine title "Plinii epistolae"; edges stained red; green silk bookmark. Large engraved armorial bookplate on front pastedown of Wilmot Vaughan, 1st Earl of Lisburne, known as Viscount Lisburne from 1766-1776, with his motto "Non revertar inultus." In modern mustard yellow cloth phase box; in marbled paper and brown leather slipcase, with gold-stamped spine title "Plinius. C. Plinii secundi. 1518."

Coll. copy 2: contemporary limp vellum binding; yapp edges; remnants of two pairs of leather ties; old ms. spine title; sewn on three bands; spine reinforced with strips of early [14th-cent.?] vellum ms. waste. Seventeenth-century [?] ownership inscription on t.p. of the Altemps library, "Ex bibl[iote]ca.
