- Woodcuts: title within four-piece compartmentalized historiated border; Sessa's cat-and-mouse device beneath title, initialed "M.S."; another smaller Sessa device below colophon on verso of last leaf of text (orb and cross on a black background, with initials "M.S"); large white-vine initials on black criblé background; smaller white-on-black floriated initials; 37 illustrations (81 x 74 mm. or smaller), one at the head of each book, including maps of Europe and Africa, and a drawing of Pliny seated at a desk, writing his book, surrounded by a king (with crown), and eight other men (Book 1); recto of leaf aa3 contains a reproduction of the tombstone inscription of Pliny's parents.
