Summary expansion
Chastity is treated as it applies to all states of life, both single and married lay people, and committed celibates. Scardeone displays a true pastoral concern regarding the many precautions for safeguarding chastity, the spiritual exercises helpful in promoting it, and the procedures to be followed when it is violated, supported throughout with marginal Biblical references. His warnings against the more unsavory passages in the classical poets are tempered with an acknowledgement of the the value of the philosophers, and he includes chapters on the uses of science, mathematics, and music as well
