Summary
The life and career of James Lewis, who started playing in 1953, at age 18, for the Indianapolis Clowns (which had a woman player on the team while he was there). The story recounts the various teams he played for until his move to California in the 1950s; it also recounts his foray into bowling, another sport in which he became interested. Lewis talks about a number of jobs that he held after his baseball career wound down, including a stint in the army, working at the Post Office and running a restaurant. Many topics are discussed, including attitudes towards African Americans in sports and encountering racism in many of the venues where Negro Leaguers played; Lewis also gives opinions about the current sports scene and some of today's players and teams
