  • Colophon (leaf chi1) supplies imprint date of 1542: Romae. In aedibus Francisci Priscianensis M.D. XLII; dedicatory epistle dated 1543
  • Printed from a ninth century manuscript preserved at Paris in which the copyist had joined the Octavius of Minucius Felix to the Adversus gentes as its eighth book. The Adversus is complete in seven books
  • Edited by Girolamo Ferrari and Francesco Priscianese at the request of Fausto Sabeo; see dedicatory epistle, signed Faustus Sebaeus Brixianus, and dated 1 Sept. 1543 in the Bibliotheca Palatina (Biblioteca apostolica vaticana) in Rome
  • Signatures: a4 A-Q6 R8 & 2
  • Leaves a4 and R8 are blank
  • Text printed in large roman type; spaces left for capitals, with guide letters

Spec. Coll. copy: errata leaves (&2) misbound between R6 and R7. Bound in 18th-century polished ta calf; centerpiece is large gilt coat of arms of the Duke of Devonshire, supported by two stags wearing garlands of roses around their necks, with motto "Cavendo tutus;" arms enclosed by outer border of three gilt fillets, blind-tooled roll border of lotus leaves [?], triple ruled border, and gilt octagonal ruled border; spine panels bordered in gilt arabesques enclosing floral ornaments; gold-stamped red leather spine labels with title "Arnobius" and imprint "Romae 1542;" olive green marbled endpapers; edges of boards tooled in gold; all edges gilt. From the library of the Duke of Devonshire at Chatsworth, with the Chatsworth Library armorial bookplate, bearing shelf-mark added in pencil; ownership inscription [17th-century?] of Conte Ottavio Archinto on title page ("Co. Ottavio Archinto") and dedication page ("CO. O. AR"). Purchase, A. Sokol, 1989.
