Note
  • Incipit (leaf I): "Incominciai la excelle[n]te [et] delectabile opera intitulata Aquila, composta per el magnifico [et] excellentissimo homo Miser Leonardo Aretino. Et da quello curiosamente translata da latino in vulgare sermone."
  • The work, falsely attributed to Leonardo Bruni, is, in fact, an imitation of Guido da Pisa's "Fiore o fiorita d'Italia", with some missing chapters replaced with passages from Brunetto Latini's "Tesoro". The text also includes several excerpts from Dante's Divina Commedia. Bruni may have been identified as the author in order to give greater credence to the work. Cf. Brunet, Melzi
  • Imprint from colophon
  • Title-page contains a "canzone" in terza rima, addressed to the reader: "Ad lectorem. Chi se dilecta de scriptura antica / Et pigliasse piacer de ogni storia / Questa opereta se la faza amica / Et quel che narra mandane in memoria ..."
  • Signatures: Aa4 A-G8 H4
  • Woodcuts: title within ornamental border of white strapwork on black criblé background; white-on-black strapwork and foliated initials
  • Printed in two columns
