  • Apparently printed by Paolo Manuzio in 1538, a troubled year for the press when no volumes were printed there. At that time, Paolo Manuzio had been in dispute with the Torresano brothers who he claimed were blocking his access to his father's italic types

This copy has the final blank leaf, and leaf LL2. signed E2. Contemporary [?] vellum boards, sewn on three large bands; ms. spine title "Appiano ..." Small paper strip on front pastedown, with ownership inscription "Ex libris Antonii Presbyteri" in a later hand; verso of front free endpaper has ownership inscription, "Joa. Henricus ab Elsenheim 1643", possibly Jean Henri d'Elsenheim; old ms. initials "HE" on t.p. Purchase, Antonello Privitera, March 1996.
