Summary expansion
Included are discussions on the kitchen and food in general, as well as specific recipes for sauces, meats, fish, poultry, and vegetables. According to Barbara Flower and Elisabeth Rosenbaum in The Roman cookery book, De re coquinaria "aroused the interest of the Renaissance humanists, and especially that of the physicians among them, who were attracted by the importance it places upon diet." This collection of recipes is founded on original Greek manuscripts of the 3rd century A.D. Although usually ascribed to Coelius Apicius, the authorship of the work remains uncertain
