Summary expansion
Telesio attempts to ascertain the "true meaning" of color, by analyzing the subject philosophically, philologically, and scientifically. He not only makes subtle distinctions between tones, but also attributes emotional qualities to them. This work began a genre of literature on the subject of color which had a significant influence on painters and early authors of treatises on Renaissance painting
