Leone, a kinsman of Andrea Torresani, was a member of Aldus Manutius's humanist circle, and served as his family doctor (see G. Fletcher, New Aldine Studies, page 27). His most famous work was De Nola (Venice 1514), an archaeological and topographical treatise about his native town of Nola, and one of the earliest books on archaeology
