Coll. copy: Laid in are three leaves of typescript: two leaves provide background on the circumstances which resulted in the letters and complaints, with a note in pencil appended to one of them signed "M.G.H." [Maurice Gerald Holmes] stating that it is completely false; and the third is a letter, dated May 8, 1952, to Holmes from Bjarne Kroepelien of Oslo, renowned collector of materials on Polynesia and Tahiti, containing a list of items from Holmes's bibliography that Kroepelien is seeking to purchase for his own collection. Bound in 19th-century [?] half-binding of black leather and marbled paper boards; gold-stamped spine title "Letter to the Earl of Sandwich. Forster. 1778;" marbled endpapers. Illustrated bookplate on front pastedown of James Edge-Partington, with his motto "Constans fidei;" below is the book label of Maurice Holmes. The Holmes collection was acquired by UCLA Library in 1961; see UCLA Librarian, Nov. 22, 1961.
