Summary expansion
Dr. Negrao's pharmacy was sold to a series of German owners, including Heinrich Schmidt, and Friedrich Steck and his nephew Paul Sartorius. It was Sartorius who successfully developed the market for ilang-ilang oil, and eventually came to own Dr. Negrao's original pharmacy in the Escolta, and its numerous branch stores. Another German, Reinhold Boie, opened a pharmacy in Vigan in 1867, which he named Botica Boie. Before he died in 1880, Paul Sartorius asked Reinhold Boie to become his partner and manage his businesses in Manila, which Boie did until his own death in 1896. In 1902, Paul Rümcker and F. Roder, who had been long-time employees of Botica Boie, bought the company whose name changed to Botica Boie, Stahl and Rümcker, Proprietors. Botica Boie was sold to the Philippine American Drug Company in 1918 by the United States Alien Property Custodian. The book includes many historical photographs, portrait drawings of all of the important figures in Botica Boie's history, a map, timeline, and list of some Botica Boie agencies
